The short version

What the app records

With your permission, Beenlog records location points in the background, including when the app is closed. Each point holds latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, heading, accuracy and a timestamp. It asks for “Always” location access because that is what lets it record without gaps; you can change this in iOS Settings at any time.

With your permission, it also reads the activity type iOS reports, such as walking or driving, so it can tell drives from walks and get your trips and mileage right.

From those points the app builds visits, trips, places you return to, distance statistics, and drive classifications (Business or Personal), including any you set yourself. All of this stays on your device unless you choose one of the options below.

When data leaves your phone

Cloud Sync (optional, paid). If you turn on sync, your history is uploaded to servers we operate on Amazon Web Services in [region] so it can appear on your other devices. It is encrypted in transit and at rest. You sign in with Apple or with your email address, and that is the only account information we keep. Payments are handled by Apple; we receive your subscription status, not your payment details. We look at an individual history only when you ask us to for support, or when the law requires it.

Your own server (optional, free). If you enter a server address, Beenlog sends your points straight to that server and may read history back from it. We never receive this data.

Exports and sharing. GPX, GeoJSON, PDF and CSV files you export or share go wherever you send them.

What we don't do

Keeping and deleting

Data on your phone stays until you delete it, in the app or by deleting the app. If you use Cloud Sync, deleting data in the app deletes it from sync too. If you close your Cloud Sync account, we delete your synced data within [30] days and from backups within [90] days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under PIPEDA in Canada, the CCPA in California and the GDPR in the EU and UK, you can access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Most of this you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email privacy@beenlog.app and we'll reply within 30 days.

Children

Beenlog is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
